Upolu (Apia)

Covering an area of 432 square miles, Upolu is the most populous island of Samoa and home to the international airport and the rustic capital city of Apia. The rich fertile soils of this volcanic island give rise to stunning rainforrests and plantations of banana, cocoa, rubber and coconuts in the island's interior amids which traditional villages with their rich culture can be found. With lovely palm fringed beaches and good surf breaks, life here is utterly relaxed. A visit to the home of Robert Louis Stevenson who spent the last years of his life here in the late 19th century is a must!
